The variation of fish suited to pond life is endless; however it is advisable to have a selection of top, middle and bottom feeders to help replicate the eco-cycle found in their natural habitats. For example Koi are top feeders producing sediment that settles on the bottom, in time decaying and producing nitrates and nitrites. Bottom feeding filtering fish such as Orf will process this sediment, extracting nutrition from the waste and reducing the amount left to decay, helping to complete a natural waste cycle and a more efficient pond.

Our Cold Water Fish
Goldfish are the world’s most popular pet so understandably associated with coldwater aquariums; however people often neglect to acknowledge the diverse and varied selection of coldwater specimens available. When stocking the aquarium it is beneficial on both a biological and aesthetic level to replicate as near as possible the natural order of things. This consists of ensuring there are top/middle and bottom feeding stock.
Top feeding fish such as goldfish float around, usually towards the top half of the aquarium producing waste that collects on the aquarium bottom. By selecting to keep coldwater members of the loach family (weather and stone loach) you will have bottom dwelling fish that disturb decomposing sediment on the aquarium bottom, accelerating the biological cycle and filling the bottom part of the aquarium.
Our Livestock includes: Common Goldfish, Comet, Shubunkins, Moors, Orandas, Ryukin, Fantails, Veiltail, Lionhead, Pearlscale, Pompom, Bubble-Eye, Rainbow Darter, Weather Loach, Tiger, Loach and Hong Kong Plec.
Our Tropical Fish
Tropical Freshwater Aquariums are a popular choice for beginners and hobbyists alike for a variety of reasons. There are so many different options to choose from, with a wide variety of brightly coloured fish to add interest to your tank giving it that Marine feel, without the hassle of Saltwater setup and maintenance. Tropical freshwater setups are therefore often less expensive and easier to maintain than marine aquariums.
See below for a list of the Tropical fish we stock or are able to get hold of. If you are looking at rarer examples or want to check our current stock levels please call 01709 893265 to avoid disappointment.
